Cheeseburger in Paradise

We left Ft. Myers Beach on Thursday Jan 4th and made our way across the bay to Sanibel Island for lunch at Gramma Dot's. Stacy and her brother had spent time here earlier and she wanted to show it to me. She made it into the narrow marina fairway and turned around without hitting any of the million dollar yachts with our boat. We made our way from there to: I like mine with lettuce and tomato, Heinz 57 and french fried potatoes, big kosher pickle and a cold draft beer. You guessed it, we are anchored next to Cabbage Key, where Jimmy Buffett wrote Cheeseburger in Paradise. Stacy and I had lunch there and then all of us went there again this morning for breakfast. Yesterday Bill caught his first fish and we filleted it only to realize that it was much too bony to eat. It was fun catching, however. Later today, we went to another island on the other side of us. This is Useppa island, an exclusive private island. We gained access, or rather, Stacy got us access (you know how Aunt Stacy is) and we were able to tour the island, have lunch at the club and view homes for sale. Does anyone have a spare 3 million for a small beach cottage? This island is only accessable by boat and most of these houses are just weekend getaways. Then we came back to our "home" anchored just off the beach of Useppa.

"Good God Oh Molly Which Way Do I Steer for My Cheeseburger in Paradise...." I am so jealous you guys.;)Cabbage Key!!
You're looking great. Is that really a bottle of Heinz 57? :) It's so good to pull up this blog and see you all having such fun... well it appears as though all of you are!! The other incredible thing is that I can say is,these sweet people (Stacy and Paul) hangin' out with my folks- (Ellen and Bill) are people I've had the pleasure to meet face to face & are the Genuine Articles-
the Epitomy of decent,fun-loving,
adventurous, kind hearted souls. I always say Good People are bound to meet other Good People-it's in God's BLUEPRINTS that's why they're called true blue friends! Thanks Stacy and Paul for everything!... & as Jimmy Buffett would say; "It's been a Love'ily Cruise" Hope you are saying the same!" Big Hugs! Tracy

Hi:

Came across your blog because of a google alert for the keyword 'Useppa'...used to vacation there quite a bit in the 80's. Sounds like you are having a great trip.

Anyway, I know it won't spoil a bit of your fun, as you are truly in paradise, but the Cheeseburger in Paradise/Cabbage Key thing is unfortunately urban legend (perhaps intracoastal legend?). It was actually written about a little restaurant on the tip of Tortola. I have been there a few times while sailing the the British Virgins, and frankly, the cheeseburgers are much better at Cabbage Key anyway. Nevertheless, someone should write a song called 'Stone Crab Claws in Paradise' or at least that's how I see it. Happy sailing.

Kevin,
I should have said "ALLEGEDLY" written here. I wasn't absolutely sure, but thought it to be urban legend. Thanks for the info.

Aunt Stacy and Uncle Paul, it sounds like you are having a blast. I have been reading your blog and all I can say is I wish I were there with you instead of here having to do school! Oh well. See you when you return - if you return because it looks like ya'll are having too much fun to come back to boring Athens. Just kidding!! See you soon. Leah

I wish I was eating a cheeseburger in paradise! My word do I wish I was anywhere but here going to 8 a.m. classes! I had micro lab this morning and I am going to have to get used to actually using a microscope. I'm somehow avoided having this skill in my previous classes, but now that the entire class is microscope work I'm sure I will be an expert in no time. You better be somewhere that I want to see in March because if things work out I may come sail during spring break. We'll see, but keep that in the back of your mind. I love you guys and I can't wait to see you again. I do keep my blog updated about every two weeks or so, so if we don't talk for a while you can check in on me there.

Paul and Stacy; Let's put an end to the "Cheeseburger" debate! Jimmy wrote it at our home in Cape Coral. Enjoyed our brief visit at Cabbage. Please visit Mike and Paige Caldwell at http://pcaldwell5.tripod.com/western_loop/loop100.htm

Paul,

How about droping up and changing the zincs on my prop. And while you are down there scrape the barnicales off the prop.

It's cold here. Rained all day. Looog walk down the cold dock in the rain to "W-O-R-K" (that other 4 letter word). And you guys are in shorts. "Gosh darn"or words to that effect.
